Inhalation can lead to

It is the largest
industrial killer in the UK with approximately 4000 deaths per year.
Asbestos is normally only dangerous if it is
inhaled!
The human body has a
clearance mechanism to deal with dust and fibres. Large
particles are coughed
up with Phlegm. Small particles are
removed by white blood
cells. Asbestos fibres between 5 and 100 m and with a length to diameter ratio of
more than 5 : 1 may
be small enough to penetrate the air sacks but are still too long
to be dealt with by
the white cells.
